EU AI Act Compliance
Overview
What EU AI Act Compliance does, what it deliberately does not do and how this documentation is structured.
Welcome! EU AI Act Compliance helps you label the AI content in your shop – images, video, audio and product texts – and tells your customers about it, automatically and in the right places.
This guide is written for shop owners and editors. You don't need any technical background: every section walks you through one task, step by step.
The screenshots in this documentation were taken in an English demo shop. The extension itself is fully bilingual – it follows the language of your Shopware administration and of each sales channel.
Why this matters
The European AI Regulation (EU AI Act, Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) requires in Article 50 that artificially generated or substantially manipulated content is recognisable as such, and that people are told when they are interacting with AI – a chatbot, for example. Those transparency obligations have applied since 2 August 2026. In July 2026 the European Commission adopted its final guidelines on Article 50, and the extension is built for them.
As a shop operator you are a deployer: if you use AI images, AI video, AI audio, AI product texts or an AI chatbot, the disclosure has to be there the first time a customer sees the content.
What the extension does
- Label content: For every image, video, audio file or product text you set whether it is AI content – and optionally which AI tool created it.
- Inform customers: A clearly visible transparency badge appears automatically on labelled images and video. On top of that there is a product-wide disclosure on the product page and a notice at your chatbot.
- Maintain efficiently: Label many media at once – via CSV import, per media folder, through folder defaults for new uploads, or from metadata suggestions found in the image files.
- Produce evidence: A coverage dashboard shows how complete your labelling is. An AI register, a change log and a PDF compliance dossier help you document all of it.
What it deliberately does not do
- It does not detect AI content automatically and reliably. It reads technical image metadata (C2PA/IPTC) and suggests a status from it – no guesswork, no heuristics, because a wrong guess would be a liability risk. The decision stays with you.
- It does not replace legal advice. It is a tool that lets you implement your obligations in practice.
No legal advice: neither this extension nor this documentation replaces legal advice. How exactly you have to implement the transparency obligations in your specific shop is something to clarify with your legal counsel.
Where to find it in the administration
After you activate the extension, a new area called EU AI Act Compliance appears in the admin menu under Content. That is where the overview, the AI register, the review queue, the folder defaults and the change log live.
How to best get started
We recommend working through this guide in this order:
- Getting started – install, activate and label your first image.
- Labelling images & video – the four statuses and what they mean.
- Bulk labelling – four faster routes for large media libraries.
- Labelling product texts – state where a description came from.
- What customers see – badge, product-wide disclosure and chatbot notice in the storefront.
- Configuration – every setting explained, per sales channel.
- AI register & evidence – register, dashboard, change log and compliance dossier.
- Automation – rule condition, Flow Builder action and the CMS element.
- FAQ & legal – answers, uninstalling and the legal background.
Let's start with getting started.
