Pitching Set
AI Connection over MCP
Last updated:
Through a local MCP server, an AI client such as Claude, Cursor or Codex can read your open project and, once you allow it, edit it. The AI connection is part of Pitching Set Pro. With Pro, the server is on when the app opens, until you turn it off in Settings; without Pro it stays closed.
What the AI connection is
A helper in the app bundle talks to the client over stdio and passes requests on to the running app. It has no network access, no shell and no keychain access, and it publishes nothing. Sending to App Store Connect, videos and purchases never go through the AI connection. Whether your client sends texts and previews to an external model depends on its own configuration.
The client sees only projects you have shared, and inside them no file paths and no original images. It gets previews as reduced images.
What a client can do
| Area | What the client may do |
|---|---|
| Read | List shared projects, read a project or set as a manifest, read texts per language, read the product page texts with Apple's length limits and checks |
| Look | Render a page as an image, also as a contact sheet in several languages and formats; measure how texts fit per language and format; query the check before export; take the app to the matching place |
| Design | Prepare changes as a plan of up to 100 operations: texts, position, style, objects, pages, sets, panoramas, languages, formats, background, device bodies, frames, status bar at 9:41; render the plan as a preview, then apply it |
| Texts | Set up to 1,000 texts of a set or up to 300 product page fields as one plan; request five text suggestions on Macs with Apple Intelligence; fill in missing texts with Apple Translation or propose its own translations |
| Projects and images | Create a project from a template; ask you to import an image or a screenshot folder with one subfolder per language; export PNG files into a folder you have shared; download Apple's device packages, whose license only you accept |
| Connection | Read the state of its access, wait for your approval, query the limits of the connection, undo its own steps |
Connect a client
- Open Settings and choose AI Connection. With Pro, Allow Local MCP Server is already on; without Pro, the switch opens the purchase page.
- Under Set Up a Client, choose your Client: Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI or another client with stdio transport.
- Click Copy. The entry contains the path of the helper in the app bundle and the folder of the connection; you type nothing by hand.
- Add the entry as the instructions under the client describe: for Claude Desktop in
claude_desktop_config.jsonundermcpServers, for Claude Code as the terminal commandclaude mcp add, for Cursor in~/.cursor/mcp.json, for Codex in~/.codex/config.toml. - Restart the client. It appears under Connected Clients as soon as it starts Pitching Set.
Share a project
Open a project and click AI Connection in the toolbar. For each waiting client, choose:
- Allow Editing: the client may read, look at previews and apply plans.
- Allow Reading and Previews Only: the client may only read and look at previews.
Access applies only to the open project and ends after 30 minutes. If you turn on Trust this client for this project, choose a Duration: Until the app restarts, 8 hours or Until revoked. Until then the client keeps working without asking again, also after it reconnects. Trust is only available for signed programs, not for interpreters or shells. Revoke ends access.
Propose, review, apply
A client never changes anything directly. It first prepares a plan, can look at it as a preview and measure how texts fit, and only then applies it. Every plan is bound to the state of the project: if you change something yourself in between, the client has to plan again. It exports PNG files only into a folder you have shared with Share Output Folder…. You confirm imports of images and screenshot folders yourself in the window; the app never reads the folder the client suggests without you.
Each applied plan is its own step, “AI: Edit Design”, which ⌘Z undoes. The client itself can only undo its own steps, never yours.
Status and updates
In Settings under Connected Clients, and in the AI Connection window under Share Project, you see how each client stands:
- Working or Active: the client asked for something within the last two minutes.
- Idle or Connected · no request yet: the client is connected and doing nothing right now.
- Waiting for your approval: the client waits until you allow it.
An orange dot on the AI Connection icon shows that something needs your attention. A green dot shows that a client is working.
After an update of Pitching Set, the client still runs the old helper. The note “Pitching Set was updated” names the client you should restart. When you quit or restart Pitching Set, clients connect again by themselves. Disconnected clients stay below the list for a quarter of an hour. If the connection can’t open, for example because a second Pitching Set instance still holds it, Pitching Set keeps trying until it works.
Turn it off
In Settings under AI Connection, turn off Allow Local MCP Server. Pitching Set remembers that: the server stays closed after a restart until you turn it on again. When your subscription ends, the app closes the connection; it comes back with Pro.
Free and Pro
The AI connection needs Pro. Without Pro the server stays closed, and Allow Local MCP Server opens the purchase page. What a client changes follows the same rules as your own work: exporting every language and format needs Pro, see Pro and pricing.
