App Store Screenshots FAQ

Last updated:

This FAQ answers questions about App Store screenshots and Pitching Set: size, number, Mac, localization, API key, uploading, the free tier, and what the app doesn't do. Apple's details were checked on November 6, 2026, and can change.

App Store screenshots in general

How do I make App Store screenshots?

In Pitching Set, you create a project from a template, add your screenshots, write the texts, and export PNG files. The steps are in Getting started.

How many screenshots are required for the App Store?

At least one and up to ten per device size, according to Apple's specifications. .jpeg, .jpg, and .png are allowed.

What size do App Store screenshots need to be?

That depends on the device. Pitching Set treats 1206 × 2622 pixels (6.3″) as required for iPhone apps, 2064 × 2752 pixels (13″) for iPad apps, and 2880 × 1800 pixels for Mac apps. All formats are in Sizes. Apple's specifications are what counts.

What size are Mac App Store screenshots?

According to Apple, 16:10 at 1280 × 800, 1440 × 900, 2560 × 1600, or 2880 × 1800 pixels. Pitching Set exports 2880 × 1800 pixels.

Do I need one set per language?

No, not necessarily. According to Apple, the highest resolution is enough if your interface is the same everywhere; separate images per size and language are possible. In Pitching Set, one set applies to all languages, see Localization.

How do I localize App Store screenshots?

With Pro, Apple Translation translates the texts on your Mac; otherwise, you enter them by hand. Pitching Set translates only the texts of your images and your product page, not your app.

What's the difference between an app preview and a screenshot?

A screenshot is an image, an app preview a video. Apple's guidelines 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 cover both; under 2.3.4, app previews may consist only of recordings of the app.

How long can an App Store preview video be?

15 to 30 seconds and up to 500 MB, according to Apple's specifications.

Can screenshots show device frames?

We haven't found a clear statement from Apple on this. Apple's guideline 2.3.3 requires screenshots to show the app in use. Check your case yourself; we give no legal advice and no promise for App Review.

For Apple frames: The app doesn't include them, downloads them from Apple on request, and you agree to Apple's license yourself. They're never rotated, tilted, animated, shadowed, or cropped. 3D exists only with the app's own device bodies.

What are product page optimization and custom product pages?

With product page optimization, Apple tests versions of your product page. Custom product pages show certain visitors other content.

You can prepare both under App Store Connect.

How do I update App Store screenshots without uploading a new build?

We don't have a reliable Apple source for this yet. Check in App Store Connect whether a version's images can currently be changed.

Pitching Set sends only to versions in preparation.

How do I publish an app on the App Store?

You do that in App Store Connect. Pitching Set doesn’t submit or publish anything.

App Store Connect

How do I create an App Store Connect API key?

You create it in App Store Connect and add the .p8 file under Settings → App Store Connect. The steps are in Set up an App Store Connect API key.

How do I upload screenshots to App Store Connect?

With Pro, click App Store Connect in the toolbar, then Send…. Without Pro, export PNG files and upload them yourself.

Why are my screenshots not uploading to App Store Connect?

Usually a version in preparation or a language is missing, or the key has too few rights. The app gives the reason; the messages are in Troubleshooting.

Does Pitching Set submit my app?

No. Pitching Set doesn’t submit or publish anything. You do that in App Store Connect.

Free and Pro

Is there a free App Store screenshot generator?

Pitching Set has a free tier, within limits. You design each image yourself. For free, you design everything and export the required formats for iPhone, iPad, and Mac in the set's source language, without a watermark. Further languages, formats, and videos need Pro, see Pro and pricing.

What does Pro cost?

The purchase page shows the current price. The yearly plan has a one-week trial.

What happens after the subscription ends?

Your projects and exported images stay. Pro features lock again.

Data

Does the app need an account?

No. There's no account and no servers of its own. For App Store Connect, you need an API key from Apple.

Does the app collect statistics?

No. Usage Data says No statistics. More in Mac integration.

Where are my projects?

On your Mac, in the app's workspace. Show in Finder takes you to the file. Export Project… writes a package you can pass on.

Can I open projects on another Mac?

Yes, through a project package. Apple frames, video recordings, music, and keys aren't in the package. You locate Apple frames again over there.

AI connection and command line

Can I drive Pitching Set from Claude, Cursor or Codex?

Yes, with Pro, through the AI connection: a local MCP server in the app that you see in Settings under AI Connection. The client reads a project only after you share it and changes it only through plans that ⌘Z undoes. Everything about it in AI connection.

Is there a command line tool?

The command line tool pitching-set is not part of the App Store version of Pitching Set and isn't described in this documentation.
